A common question I get from my free newsletter

This is a difficult question to answer as whilst there are a few
available on the market they are ALL ILLEGAL.
To understand this you must realize that the codec behind the DVD
format is called MPEG-2 and is owned by its rightful copyright
holder. However it is possible to licence the MPEG-2 codec for use
in both DVD hardware and software players.
What some software companies have done for their own gain is to
bypass this and produce a free dvd player for windows computers. But
they offer no support or warranty, or even that they are not putting
